Jul/Aug 2003 A number of fax solutions now offer SMS functionality, enabling network users to send SMS messages from their desktop, products include: GFI FAXmaker, Topcall and Zetafax. GFI released new versions of their fax servers; GFI FAXmaker for Networks 11 and GFI FAXmaker for Exchange 10, both including the inbuilt SMS gateway, support for receiving faxes in PDF format, Windows 2003 support and more.
Oct 2002 Launched the 'Product Reviews' section which will be updated with Fax software/hardware reviews, written by experienced professionals. Also watch out for the NTfaxFAQ.com Visitor's Choice awards in the coming months, share your views and experiences on software/hardware you have used with the 'Comments' feature in the software section, prizes will be awarded to several visitors who post their comments and experiences. Sep 2002 In the first Readers' Choice Awards by Windows & .NET Magazine published on September 15th, Handspring's Treo 180 was awarded first prize in the 'Unified Messaging Solutions' category, whilst GFI's FAXmaker for Exchange won the Readers' Choice Award for Best Fax Server. In other industry news, GFI launched GFI FAXmaker for Networks 10 featuring a new fax viewer, support for Outlook contacts as phonebook, automated faxing through NetPrintQueue2FAX, server and client support for Win XP, and more. AdriaComm has acquired Cromerica Technologies and has discontinued CTFax.
May 2002 NTfaxFAQ.com Re-launch! Welcome to the new and improved Windows NT/2000 Fax Solutions website! Together with a site redesign, all categories have been restructured and optimized with new/updated products. The new products section also incorporates several new features such as product voting and comments, we invite you to browse through the listings and vote for your favorite products, thereby helping other administrators make more informed purchasing decisions.
January 2002 GFI Software Ltd. released FAXmaker for Exchange 9.0, with full support for Windows XP clients, a new and improved interface, an inbuilt fax anti-spam feature and more! It is now also fully integrated with Active Directory, therefore a separate internal fax user database is no longer required. Several new features allow FAXmaker to be a low maintenance fax server, requiring minimal or no administration after initial installation.
November 2001 NetCentric no longer in the Fax Services business. Artisoft's 'Visual Fax ActiveX' control toolkit has been discontinued. Parity Software have merged with Dialogic. 'FaxAmatic', by ElectraSoft, was added to the 'Single user fax software' section. Thought Communications have replaced their 'FaxTalk Communicator' software with 'FaxTalk Messenger Pro'. Added 'FAXware for Groupwise' and 'GlobalComServer' to the 'SMTP & Other Gateways' section. Added 'RTE FAX' to the 'Exchange fax connectors' and 'Lotus Notes FAX gateways'.
Important Note: The fax server industry is not as active as it used to be, due to current market conditions, many companies have opted out of this sector and therefore many products are simply not being updated. When choosing a fax server, consider purchasing for the longer term and go with a company that still invests in its fax server offering!
August 2001 LANsource FAXport no longer exists - 3COM have discontinued their product. Several fax companies in Germany have declared bankruptcy and other's have their stock price approaching the $1 figure; When buying Fax server software, stick to the companies who have a long term commitment to the market and who are leaders in their market segment: RightFAX, GFI FAXmaker, VSI fax, Omtool - You don't want to be buying your software again in a year's time...
June 2001 FerrariFAX, FaxChange & Fax Sr. Enterprise now support Exchange 2000. Gold-Fax added to the Exchange fax connectors section. FaxExchange from Orcatech, Telcomfax from LTC and Lotus fax server from Lotus have all been discontinued. Added a new listing for FaxControl in the 'FAX gateways for other Groupware' section. IXI-Server Fax added to the 'Lotus Notes FAX gateway' section.
April 2001 VSi released version 4.11 of their fax server, check out more details here. Updated 'SMTP FAX gateways' and 'Fax servers with client software' sections. Kevin Savetz has updated his FAQ on Internet Faxing, click here for the latest version.
March 2001 Updated the 'Fax Devices' page with a listing from Mainpine Limited. Updated the 'Lotus Notes' category with software from Servonic and ACCPAC. Page Technology Marketing have added a few more features to their 'PCL Tool SDK', updated listing in 'FAX API's / SDK's, utilities and other fax tools' category.
January 2001 GFI released FAXmaker for Exchange 2000, the first native fax conenctor for Exchange 2000! Click here for the official press release. VSi-Fax for Notes added to the 'Lotus Notes Fax Gateways' section.
December 2000 I have updated the FAQ with some information about "DID". VP_2000 Interface Conversion card by CTPX Telecommunications was added to the "Fax Devices" page. November 2000 GFI releases FAXmaker for Exchange 2000. Updated the Exchange fax category to reflect which Exchange connector products support Exchange 2000. Currently the only products that support Exchange 2000 are: FAXmaker, Faxination, Ixifax and Faxchange. Rightfax and commercepath have merged product lines. Check out their new product here.
October 2000 Updated the Rightfax and the FAXmaker for Networks/SMTP listing. Both products have released new versions. Also updated other products, including Coteng's "Femail II". Send in your latest product updates and releases to . NTfaxFAQ was also chosen as "Editor's Choice" in the Fax Server category on Dmoz.
May/June 2000 Added Caesar fax server. Made various updates to the FAXgate, Rightfax, Electrasoft, Activefax and Hotshare entries. Special note to Smith micro Hotshare - it now includes an IP fax gateway and MAC clients.
March 2000 Added a link to Turbopower's Choosing a modem white paper. Recommended reading. My only addition - Go for an ISDN device or Fax card instead of a modem. If you must use a modem, go for Multitech or Zyxel. Dont even think about US Robotics. Also, I added Netmoves, Runfax, Topcall & Turbopower to the list.
January 2000 Dialogic Fax entry updated with its fax card range and its new Dialogic Fax developers kit. FAXmaker prices reduced drastically, especially for FAXmaker for Networks/SMTP versions
December 1999 Redrock Faxnow gains support for Diva ISDN cards, TAPI cards and more modems. 3COM buys LANsource for $26 million, in a bid to capture some of the fax over IP market. Is there such a big market for FAX over IP?
